qikfox Browser: Unleashing the Future: The Convergence of AI, Web2, Web3 and WebX
In mid 2021, we embarked upon the challenging task of making the world’s most advanced Web Browser based on first principles thinking, and from the get go we could predict that Internet is broken, its bursting at its seams, and no platform company is interested in solving the hard problems. Instead, it is more of the same.
The more we researched, the more we realized that Internet has become fundamentally unreliable for consumers and businesses.
In the name of openness and lack of regulation, the Internet governing bodies have become sort of “cooperative societies” that lack the will and resources to safeguard consumers from online perils like scams, phishing, malware, fake ads, popups, social engineering tricks and malicious scripts. 80% of the threats originate from rogue web domains yet none of the platform owners (Browser Vendors) have taken the ownership of guaranteeing “Safe Browsing” from their platforms. Further this reality is complicated by the fact that the same tech giants run massive ad-businesses and it is not in their interest to cannibalize their own cash cows. Digital Ads is a big business and the tech majors who own ad-networks benefit from the ad-spend of these rogue elements.
Internet browsers serve as the primary gateway for consumers to access the Internet, making them one of the biggest threat vectors. It is surprising to witness the ineffectiveness of browsers in shielding consumers from the dangers posed by rogue entities, such as malicious websites and domains. The narrative takes an ironic twist with companies like Let’s Encrypt, which was founded as a nonprofit with the noble intent of making the web more secure by promoting the use of SSL/TLS certificates. However, the reality has diverged from the original mission, as Let’s Encrypt has inadvertently become a conduit for these rogue operators to obtain TLS certificates with ease, facing little to no repercussions.
This situation is exacerbated by a lack of rigorous verification processes, commonly known as Know Your Business (KYB), before these certificates are issued. The Certificate Authorities (CAs), including Let’s Encrypt, maintain that their role is limited to merely issuing certificates. Meanwhile, domain registrars adopt a passive stance, showing indifference to the domains being sold, and ICANN, the supposed regulatory body, operates in a manner that seems almost non-functional, reduced to a mere figurehead in the registrar ecosystem. This combination of factors creates a permissive environment where the foundational goal of securing the web is overshadowed by the operational and regulatory gaps that facilitate the misuse of trust and security mechanisms.
At qikfox, we understand this problem inside and out and hence have worked tirelessly to design a platform that is built on safety, security, and privacy as a fundamental building block of next-generation trustworthy Internet.
Almost all our competitors like Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Firefox, Brave, Arc amongst others fall in one of the three different categories:
- Those who are not innovating much because status-quo suits their existing business models (like Chrome, Safari, and Firefox)
- Or those who are indulging in gimmicky innovations serving the same old with new consumer experiences (Like Brave, and Arc).
- Those that are smitten by AI and are pushing AI into their products mindlessly (Edge, Arc).
All these three categories in essence are doing a massive disservice to the next generation web. Their platforms are reactive in nature and like ICANN, Registrars, and CAs give consumer a feeling that their technology is sufficient to keep them safe and secure online while respecting their privacy. None of that is true. These offerings fail miserably in keeping consumer safe online.
Having set the context, lets separate out two important aspects of designing a trustworthy web for the future.
- Web Browser (as a horizontal platform) that keeps consumer safe, secure, and private while delivering pleasant centralized, hybrid, and decentralized site and app experiences to consumers.
- Role of AI in helping us deliver on reliable information, secure conversations, safe transactions, and immersive experiences.
At qikfox, we are striving to strike a balance between designing the future of Internet and reacting to market imperatives like Generative AI and its impact on how consumers use the Internet. Like all other technologies, AI also has a role to play in designing better, more immersive, and trustworthy digital experiences for the consumers and businesses alike.
As stated above it will be a huge disservice to the evolution of Web if we ignore decentralization and the benefits of Web3 in favor of AI and allow tech giants to highjack the narrative for another decade, this time using Artificial Intelligence to enhance experience while safety, security, and privacy is compromized. Heck, it could be even worse, you could be trading your privacy for AI enabled experiences.
Lets put things in perspective:
The Foundation of Web3
Web3 represents the next evolutionary step in the internet’s development, focusing on decentralization, possibly blockchain technology, and enhanced user sovereignty. Unlike its predecessors, Web3 emphasizes peer-to-peer interactions, reducing reliance on central authorities and intermediaries. This architecture not only enhances security and privacy but also fosters a more equitable digital economy where users have control over their own data.
AI: The Engine of Innovation
Artificial Intelligence, on the other hand, continues to break new ground in data processing, pattern recognition, and predictive analytics. AI’s capability to learn from vast datasets and improve over time has found applications in nearly every sector, from healthcare and finance to education and entertainment. Web Browsers are no different: The most compelling AI use cases come from safety, security, privacy, besides new ways of creating, curating, organizing, and publishing content.
Adding AI copilot that regurgitates an LLM with pseudo-reasoning sprinkled here and there is not our idea of innovation.
Our steadfast focus remains on reimagining the next generation web that is Trustworthy, reliable, and brings choices to the consumer. Choices like platform plumbing for Web2, Web3, Hybrid, and other content formats.
While keeping our focus on designing the next-generation web, here are a few ways in which we are using AI to enhance the experience for the consumers and businesses:

Our browser features AI-driven personalization and content curation, along with support for novel digital assets and interactions facilitated by decentralized web, setting new benchmarks in digital browsing experiences.
In closing, the dichotomy between centralized Web2, decentralized Web3, and hybrid models is not just a technical distinction but also represents differing ideologies about how the internet should operate. Advocating exclusively for one model over the others risks imposing a singular vision of the web that may not align with the diverse needs and preferences of its users. It is crucial to recognize that the value of a web platform lies not in its adherence to a specific version or technology, but in the breadth and quality of choices it offers to consumers.
A horizontal platform, therefore, should not advocate or push a particular web experience — be it centralized, decentralized, or hybrid — onto its users. Instead, it should strive to provide a neutral, flexible foundation that supports a wide spectrum of web technologies and experiences, enabling users to choose what best fits their requirements and preferences. The labels “Web2,” “Web3,” or “WebX” are less important than the actual functionality, security, privacy, and user empowerment that these platforms facilitate.
Ultimately, the goal should be to create an inclusive and adaptable web ecosystem that respects user agency, promotes innovation, and supports a healthy, diverse digital landscape. By prioritizing choice and flexibility, a horizontal platform can empower users to navigate and utilize the internet in ways that are most beneficial and meaningful to them, free from ideological constraints or technological limitations.
